Mr. Metz

Children's drawingMy name is Joe Metz.  This is my 13th year teaching at Nottingham School and 7th year teaching Kindergarten. I earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Math at Purdue University.  After working at IBM as a computer programmer, I worked on two organic farms while I earned my teaching license.

I am working toward my master's degree in education from Lesley University specializing in Integrated Arts. As we integrate the arts (music, drama, creative movement, poetry, storytelling, and visual art) into the curriculum, it is amazing to see how much more engaged students are and how much deeper their learning becomes in all of the integrated subjects.

I enjoy spending time with my family, tending our fledgling garden, and assembling jigsaw puzzles. We have chickens and a Bernese Mountain dog which are finally getting along together. I love to spend time in nature running, kayaking, hiking, and sledding. My favorite colors are all cool colors (blue, green, and purple).
