Welcome to Middle School Science! Middle School Science
focuses on the study of Life Science in the 7th Grade and on the
study of Physical and Earth Sciences in the 8th Grade.
Through discussions and laboratory activities, students will gain an
understanding of the major concepts presented. Emphasis will be on cooperative
learning, using the scientific method to complete experiments, and learning
the appropriate and safe use of lab equipment and materials Lab activities are an integral part
of this class. Students will receive
instruction in lab safety, lab behavior, proper procedures, and how to handle
lab equipment and materials safely.
Students will not be allowed to participate in lab activities until
they have passed the lab safety and procedures test. Also, students who come to class unprepared
to do a lab, or who do not follow safety or behavior guidelines, will not be
able to participate. Any student who is unable to complete a lab for any of
the above reasons, will be given an alternate assignment, which will cover
the same concepts. My grading policy is as follow: Class Work/Homework: 35% Quizzes & Labs: 25% Tests & Projects: 40 % Daily assignments are due the day after
they are assigned, unless I specify otherwise. Students who are absent will have as many
days as they were out to complete daily assignments that were assigned during
their absence. Students may hand in
late class work/homework assignments for 50% credit. However, once the unit of study has ended,
students will no longer be able to turn in late assignments, and will receive
a grade of 0%. Projects that are handed in late
will be marked down 5% for each day they are late. Please use the links for
details on weekly homework assignments, projects, and other useful
information. Should you wish to contact me,
please email or phone me at school. Bonnie Schofield |
